Product Information & Verification Standards

AURYN sells jewellery made with different metals, finishes, stones, coatings and components. Because the evidence available for one product may differ from the evidence available for another, we do not apply a single material or quality claim across the entire catalogue.

This page explains how we handle product information and, just as importantly, what our checks do not claim to prove.

Where product information comes from

Product information may be drawn from supplier specifications, variant data, photographs, packaging information, listed measurements, supporting documents and certificates supplied for a particular item. These sources are inputs to a product description; they are not automatically treated as conclusive proof of every possible material, origin or performance claim.

Where different sources conflict, the conflict should be resolved or the wording narrowed rather than combining inconsistent claims into one description.

What AURYN reviews

Our product-information process can include checking whether the title agrees with the specification, whether variants use consistent material descriptions, whether measurements and weights are presented clearly, whether images correspond to the relevant product or variant and whether supporting documentation actually relates to the claim being made.

We may also remove or qualify supplier language that is too broad, unclear or unsupported.

AURYN does not operate an assay office or jewellery laboratory. A product should not be described as independently laboratory tested by AURYN unless the individual product page explicitly states that such testing has taken place.

Material descriptions

Material claims are product-specific. A description such as stainless steel, sterling silver, copper, alloy, plated, pearl-effect or moissanite on one AURYN product should not be assumed to apply to another product.

Where a piece combines different materials, the description should distinguish them where the available information allows. A chain and pendant, for example, may not necessarily use the same metal.

Finishes such as gold tone, platinum tone or rose gold tone describe appearance or surface treatment unless the product information specifically supports a different claim.

“925”, “S925” and sterling silver

A “925” or “S925” mark is commonly associated with the sterling-silver fineness standard. The presence of that mark is not, by itself, the same thing as a legally recognised UK hallmark.

UK hallmarking is an independent legal system. Whether an article requires a recognised hallmark depends on the applicable law, including the type and relevant weight of the precious metal and any exemption that applies.

Read our UK Hallmarking page for more detail and the official British Hallmarking Council Dealer’s Notice for online sales.

Certificates and gemstone reports

Some jewellery may be supplied with a gemstone report or certificate, including reports associated with certain moissanite products. A document should be described according to what it actually covers.

A gemstone report does not by itself establish that the surrounding metal carries a legally recognised UK hallmark, and it should not be treated as evidence for unrelated product claims. Where a certificate applies only to a particular stone, variant or item, the product description should not extend that evidence beyond its stated scope.

Measurements and weight

Unless a product page expressly says otherwise, dimensions and weights may originate from supplier specifications rather than an independent AURYN laboratory measurement. Small manufacturing tolerances can occur.

For rings and wearable dimensions, use the measurements on the relevant product page together with our Ring Size Guide or Necklace Length Guide.

Product photography

Product photography is intended to show design, form and finish as clearly as possible. Lighting, screen settings, scale, photography and production variation can affect how colour or surface finish appears. Images should therefore be considered together with the written specification rather than used as the sole evidence of material composition or exact dimensions.

Performance claims

Terms such as waterproof, tarnish-free, hypoallergenic, solid gold, genuine gemstone or similar absolute claims should only be used when the available evidence supports the specific statement being made.

Normal care requirements can vary significantly between plain metal, plated surfaces, stones, coatings and mixed-material pieces. See our Jewellery Care Guide for practical guidance.

When evidence is insufficient

Not every supplier claim deserves to be repeated. If available information is contradictory, incomplete or too weak to support a precise claim, our preferred approach is to clarify the wording, state the limitation, request better evidence where practical or remove the unsupported claim.

Absence of evidence should not be converted into certainty.

Product pages remain product-specific

This standards page explains our general approach, but the current product page remains the primary description of the individual item offered for sale. Customers should check the selected variant, material information, dimensions and other item-specific details before ordering.

Corrections and questions

Product information can be corrected when better evidence becomes available. If you believe a material description, measurement, certificate reference or other factual detail on an AURYN product page may be inaccurate, email info@auryn-jewels.co.uk and include the product URL.
