Mframadan Meaning: The Adinkra 'Wind-Resistant House'
AURYN EditorialMframadan means "wind-resistant house" or "wind house" in Twi. The Adinkra symbol of that name stands for fortitude and preparedness: the readiness to face the storms of life, built in before they arrive.
A house that stands
The image is practical. A house built to withstand the wind is a house built with foresight, well founded and well made. The Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art documents the symbol with this meaning. As a symbol, it describes a person or a family that has prepared well for difficult times.
The symbol
Mframadan is usually drawn as a compact, strongly outlined structure, its geometry suggesting strength and stability.
Mframadan in jewellery
A Mframadan design is a sign of resilience, and of the good sense to prepare for whatever may come.
